Living In the New Normal

The past two years have brought on a new normal of change and challenges. There have been endings and new beginnings for relationships, jobs, health, freedoms, and our way of living. We have lost loved ones to death, disagreement, and conflict. Also, there is a unique layer of challenges created by information wars, manufactured division, and confusion.

What do you do with all of this? How do you manage the stress, minimize the impact and create the life you want amidst all of this chaos? Can you?? Yes! Your inner world creates your external world so take care of YOU, and everything changes. How? Take care of your body, mind, and spirit, practice being present, and follow your intuition.

Nurture Your Body, Mind, and Spirit

Let’s face it; these are stressful times for everyone to varying degrees. Simply knowing the struggles of others can send you into a downward spiral, much less your own. Taking care of yourself is critical so let’s look at a few ways we can do that on a daily basis.

Body: Get plenty of rest. Stay hydrated. Move your body with exercise. Dancing is great for shaking off stagnant energy and de-stressing. Eat nourishing foods and stay clear of indulgence to numb out. It may sound good at the moment, but it will only make you feel worse. Spend time in nature.

Mind: Be mindful of the information you consume: News, social media, the internet, even conversations with friends. The fear machine is EVERYWHERE and has a significant impact on your state of mind and being. It’s easy to get sucked into the vortex of information, and it can be detrimental to your health and well-being. Getting caught up in a stressful narrative can put you in fear mode, lowers your vibration, and limits your perspective. Life is gray, not black and white. If you are an information junkie, no matter your source, turn it off for at least two days and see how much better you feel.

Spirit: Connect with spirit, God/Source/Creator through meditation, prayer, or sound healing such as binaural beats. Breathing instantly connects to the Source, so take deliberate breaths throughout your day. Sit and focus on your breathing. Start with a minute each day and work up to 10. Get to know your Unseen friends, your guides, and angels. They are here to help. You are not alone! Connecting with Spirit and Source reminds you that there are larger forces at play and a bigger picture of life’s events even if you can’t see it.

Practice Being Present: We hear about the invaluable need to be present, yet it can be elusive. In his book The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle teaches us to practice being present by not identifying with the mind, which allows us to let go of psychological time and get into the Now. The Now is all there is, all there ever was and will be. As we practice being in the Now, we gain a sense of peace, fulfillment, and joy in life, and a stronger connection to the Source. If you are in the Now, you aren’t worrying about the present or future. In The Now you realize that a situation either needs to be solved or accepted. He reminds us that literally, all we have is Now. Nothing else exists.

Tolle’s material is one place to learn this practice, and there are many others. When we have less stress, we are able to create more of what we want and have more insight, awareness, and direction when needed. Our intuition comes through clearly. This leads me to…

Use Your Intuition: Your intuition is your inner guidance directing you to your truth, right action, and what is for your highest good. When you take care of your body, mind, and spirit, your intuition comes through loud, clear, and instantly when you are more present.

Everyone has intuition. For some, it comes naturally; for others, it is a skill you can hone. Can you recall when you have had a gut feeling about something? That is an example of your intuition. Think of when you just ‘knew’ and you were right. Reflect, and you will find a sample of your intuition at work. I “know” you will!

Intuition is vital now in this information age to tell you what is truth and falsehood. There is so much information with facts and experts, yet for every story, there is an opposite story with facts and experts. Have you noticed? How do you know what to believe? You trust your intuition. When you hear or read something, be willing to recognize your own bias and set aside a moment to check-in and see if it feels right to you.

The sensations to recognize yes and no are, but are not limited to: “Yes” may feel like a lightness, openness, or calm sensation in your chest, solar plexus, or all over your body. Maybe even goosebumps. “No” may feel like a tight, constricted feeling in these areas or like your throat is closing up (not literally). These sensations will be fleeting. Your intuition can guide you in making decisions, knowing what action to take, and even if a relationship is right for you, although we don’t always listen!

Yes, we have a new normal, and we need new and deliberate ways to manage life. Take care of your body, mind, and spirit. Practice being present. Recognize your intuition and let it be your true north. Take care of your inner world, and it will change your outer world. This time on earth may seem scary and confusing. Yet it brings a new understanding of what matters, your beliefs and connection to Spirit as well as unique and beautiful gifts. The world is getting brighter through the darkness. Use your intuition to guide you through.
